The Cloud Play 2 features a high-abrasion recycled polyester mesh upper that keeps feet cool, well-ventilated, and protected throughout the most active days. A reinforced protective toe cap guards the front of the shoe against rock kicks, playground impacts, and the general chaos of active play, adding a layer of protection that parents will appreciate. The no-tie fastening system is the Cloud Play 2's most parent- and kid-friendly feature: elasticated speed laces stitched inside the shoe eliminate the need for tying while maintaining a secure, snug fit throughout the day, and the hook-and-loop strap across the instep provides additional adjustability and closure security — making getting the shoe on and off quick and completely independent for little hands. The outer construction is designed with extra room to accommodate growing feet, extending the wearable life of the shoe across a wider range of foot sizes.

The engineering heart of the Cloud Play 2 is its adapted CloudTec cushioning system — On's signature Cloud technology reimagined specifically for kids, with new, larger Cloud elements that are reshaped and recalibrated to activate at lighter bodyweights, delivering the same soft, cushioned landing and smooth transition experience of adult On shoes in a platform perfectly sized for developing feet. The Cloud elements are strategically placed from the heel through to the midfoot — rather than extending to the forefoot — to provide the ideal combination of cushioning and stability that supports natural early movement patterns while kids run, jump, climb, and play. The outsole has been designed in consultation with kids' biometrics experts — wider with more flex grooves than a standard adult outsole to allow the foot to move freely in all directions, support natural foot development, and provide the grip and durability needed for active everyday use. A rubber outsole with wider grooves and extra rubber pads delivers confident traction and long-lasting grip across playground surfaces, indoor floors, and outdoor terrain.
