The All-Terrain Workhorse — Wherever the Road Ends, Keep Going
The Hoka Challenger 8 is a women's road-to-trail running shoe built for runners who refuse to be confined to a single surface. The most dramatically updated Challenger yet, the 8 arrives with significantly more foam underfoot, a new last with improved forefoot and instep fit, redesigned multi-directional lugs for better all-terrain traction, and a 100% recycled mesh upper — all at a weight that keeps it genuinely light for everything it delivers. Whether you're transitioning from pavement to packed gravel, logging easy miles on dirt trails, or exploring wherever your curiosity leads, the Challenger 8 is the versatile, ultra-cushioned workhorse that goes wherever you go.
100% Recycled Mesh Upper — Breathable, Durable, Purposeful
The Challenger 8 features a 100% rPET (recycled polyester) engineered mesh upper — a lightweight, highly breathable construction that keeps the foot cool and well-ventilated across a wide range of temperatures and terrain conditions. The new last brings meaningful fit improvements over the Challenger 7, with a slightly wider forefoot and improved instep fit that accommodates a broader range of foot shapes straight out of the box. A plush padded collar wraps the ankle in soft, cushioned support, while an extended heel pull tab makes slipping the shoe on and off effortless after long days on the trail. A durable 3D screen-printed toe cap provides added protection against rocks, roots, and trail debris when the terrain gets technical, and a reinforced heel counter adds a firm-but-flexible structure that keeps the heel secure through variable terrain without causing discomfort around the Achilles. Available in Regular and Wide widths.
CMEVA Midsole, MetaRocker, 4mm Lugs — Maximum Cushion, Maximum Versatility
The Challenger 8's most significant upgrade is underfoot: a full-length compression-molded EVA foam midsole that now delivers a substantial 39mm of stack height in the heel and 31mm in the forefoot — an increase of 5mm throughout compared to the Challenger 7 — resulting in a genuinely hyper-cushioned ride that absorbs impact with exceptional ease on both pavement and dirt. The 8mm heel-to-toe drop provides a generous, heel-friendly platform that suits a wide range of gait patterns, and Hoka's MetaRocker curved midsole geometry promotes a smooth, rolling heel-to-toe transition that actively assists forward momentum and reduces fatigue during extended outings. The reworked Durabrasion rubber outsole features strategically placed multi-directional 4mm lugs in a redesigned pattern that delivers confident traction on dirt, gravel, and packed trail while transitioning smoothly and quietly onto pavement — making the Challenger 8 a true all-surface performer. Outsole durability testing confirms just 0.6mm of rubber wear, making this one of the most long-lasting trail outsoles in its category.
